Italy is not my friend today :(

I ordered a poster about a week and a half ago, a great Mediterranean Tile Poster for my Exploration at school on Friday. It boasted 7 to 10 days as shipping, and as soon as I sent payment, DesignBoom sent me a message saying they would send me the poster the next day.

TODAY I received an email saying that the poster just shipped, and would take THREE WEEKS to arrive from Italy! Bastards! There's no way it'll arrive for Friday. My Exploration will be a sad, colorless drudge with not beautiful poster.

*sigh*

On time. REALLY on time.

Early, even. By 24 hours. I got all ready to go to Christina's fiancée, Tom's sledding birthday party. Went and grabbed coffee and ran into a student and his family, and then stopped by REI's clearance next door.

Then I made my way back to Kincaid Park, driving aaaaaaall the way uuuuuup the hill while looking for a sledding party. Finally made it up to the chalet and jumped out of the car. Lots of little kids sledding, but no group of rowdy twenty-somethings. Hmm. Well, I was a bit late (damn that sale--forty-five minutes), but I just didn't know what to think.

I drove back to where I had cell reception and called Christina's cell phone: "Hi, it's Jessica, I'm here at Kincaid but I don't see you all... Maybe you've decamped to another place or I'm just in the wrong spot. Anyway, if you get this, give me a call!"

I continued on my way out of the park, and as I hit the main road, my phone rang. Christina, but at home.

"Hi!"

"Hi."

"You're calling from home!"

"Um, yeah."

"It's the wrong day, isn't it?"

"Um, yeah."

"It's tomorrow, isn't it?"

"Um, yeah."

"Oh, well, at least I know where I'll be going tomorrow! I'm going to go drive off a cliff in shame."

"No worries. We'll keep it our secret."

Riiiiiiiiight.

A New Kind of Cold

For the past two days, I've experienced a new kind of cold; something completely foreign to my experiences so far in Alaska. Every time I walked outside, two things happened.

1. I lost my breath. It was like somebody hit me in the stomach; a gasping hiccup that made me sound like a fish out of water. (Am I?)

2. My boogers froze. I could feel them; all of a sudden they felt huge, like when you feel like you have something hanging out of your nostril. I've been walking around, surreptitiously rubbing at my nose for no good reason.

It's warmed up enough for it to snow. That's not particularly warm, I think it's 7F.

Can I go back to California?
